Firstly, a big welcome to all recent subscribers! It has
been exciting to monitor my website traffic since the
launch of my new e-book "Don't Just Dream It ... Do It".
It never ceases to amaze me when I see people from such
diverse countries reading these inspirations and then
choosing to become regular subscribers.

Several months ago a made a commitment to write and submit
at least 1 article per month. As a result of declaring this
to my subscribers I have been kept accountable for this
commitment. Thank you for those that have written to me
asking when the next articles are due :) As I will be
traveling next month I have submitted 2 articles this month
to tie me over until March. You can read these articles

Obstacles - Friend or Foe?

Last week I was interviewed about the concepts behind
"Don't Just Dream It ... Do It!" and several of the
questions I was asked related to obstacles - how to
overcome them or how to avoid them in the first place. It
seems fitting that this week my own Dream is being
challenged by some potential obstacles!

As you know Geoff and I have been planning to turn our
dream of traveling to Nepal into a reality. We are due to
fly to Kathmandu in 11 days .....

In the past 24 hours we have become aware of reports of
violence and political unrest surrounding the municipal
elections scheduled for February 8th. It is difficult to
know the reality of the situation and whether it poses any
real threat to our plans however this currently counts as
an "obstacle".
Sydney recently had some violent riots which effected
particular areas and I am sure to overseas tourists would
have been very concerning. However, as a local I would not
have hesitated to tell any potential tourist that it was
safe to travel here at that time.

When we are faced with an obstacle it is easy to quickly
view the obstacle as a negative. The obstacle becomes the
"bad guy" who wants to stop us achieving a specific goal.
The problem with taking this view is that we then spend a
lot of energy focusing on the negative which is very
draining.
This is how I have been viewing our obstacle for the past
24 hours! The reality is that no matter how much energy I
spend focusing on the problem it won't actually change so I
am, in fact, wasting my energy.

So what is the option?
The option is to start looking at the obstacle as a new
opportunity and make it a "good guy"! I believe there is
always a solution to an obstacle ... it might not be what I
expect it to be but there will always be a solution.
The option is to focus my energy on finding the solution
instead of wasting my energy on being disappointed or
anxious.
The option is to accept this as a challenge and trust that
no matter what the outcome is I will end up doing something
amazing.

I can't change international events but I can change the
way I choose to approach any obstacle I face.

If you are currently feeling overwhelmed or defeated by an
obstacle I challenge you this week to take on a perspective
that says "there is a solution and I will find it!".

Have an inspiring week!
