Memory Lane ..... #3
(18 October 2004)

This week finds inspiration in a little girl who crossed my
path over the weekend .....

For the last 12 months or so I have had aspirations to
participate in an ocean swim race and as we approach
another summer I decided it was time to take the plunge -
literally. As I stood on the beach on Saturday morning,
contemplating the "fresh" (cold) water with about 250 other
people, I looked down and saw a young girl with her father.

This 7 year old girl was about to swim 1.4km and take on
the choppy waters, the fish, and 250 other swimmers!

The race was great and I achieved my goal. As I stood on
the beach at the finish line getting warm I watched the
last swimmers completing the swim. Suddenly there was a
sense of excitement on the shore and a crowd gathered -
this 7 year old girl was coming to shore. The loud cheer
from the crowd was a cheer fit for a champion, and the
smile on this girls face told me that in her heart she knew
she was a champion. It was inspiring .....

The little girl was interviewed after the race and was
asked if she was the swimming champion at school? "No" she
replied "
I'm too young to be on the school swim team". Fortunately
she hasn't let this fact stop her from doing amazing
things.

Have an inspiring week!
