101 years old ... what will you be doing?

April 18, 2005

This week I found great inspiration in a news story about a
woman in the USA who is 101 years old.
Simply being 101 is inspirational but what really amazed me
was that this woman is preparing to dance in an upcoming
Broadway production!!!

She has been dancing professionally since World War 1,
retired briefly, and has returned to the stage. She is
agile, flexible, mentally astute and looks at least 20
years younger than she is. When interviewed she attributed
her good health and physical well-being to the fact she
doesn't drink or smoke, was raised to eat healthily, and
has never stopped dancing.

In a modern world where the majority of adults sit behind a
computer Monday - Friday, obesity in children is far too
common, we drive more than we walk and convenience is a way
of life - how many of us will be living such rich and agile
lives at 101 years old?

I am inspired to make this a week to "Get Moving" ... a
little bit every day! If I go for a 20min walk after work
or take a swim at lunchtime it is the start to a long
healthy life. I don't need to run a marathon ... just
respect my body's need to be mobile ... it is what it was
built for!
A little bit every day ... who knows what will be possible
when I am 101??

My challenge to you this week it to make one positive
change to your physical output ... take the stairs rather
than the lift, get off the bus 4 blocks before home, walk
the dog, ride your bike to shops etc ..... commit to doing
one positive activity every day this week and feel the
difference.

Have an inspiring week!
