Trust your horse!

March 21, 2005

Before I begin today there is a quick piece of "house
keeping". There will be a 2 week break in the delivery of
'a2a Inspirations' as I am getting married next week. As
committed as I am to delivering this service every week I
am even more committed to relaxing on a beach with my
husband whilst enjoying our honeymoon.
'a2a Inspiration' will return to your Inbox on Monday April
11th - stay tuned!

This week I came across a rather obscure quote which
initially amused me. However on further reflection I
decided this was quite a good analogy for an aspect of
human behaviour.......

" Half the failures in life arise from pulling in one's
horse as he is leaping" Julius C Hare & Augustus Hare,
'Guesses at Truth'

You may be wondering why on earth I chose this quote so
take a moment to visualise .....

You are riding a horse in a cross-country horse riding
competition with ease and confidence. You trust the horse
and the horse trusts you and so you gallop along across the
fields, through the streams and over hedges. You are on
track for a personal best time. At the end of the course is
the biggest jump of all which will require all the skill
and determination you and your horse have. The horse
gallops towards the jump and prepares to take a magnificent
leap, as his hoofs leave the ground you look down below at
the jump and panic ... maybe you won't make it! As you
react to your fear you pull on the reigns which stops the
horse mid-flight and you both tumble to the ground. You
fail to clear the jump and you fail to complete the course.
If only you had maintained trust in your horse ......

What does this have to do with us?
Think of a time that you wanted to achieve something new
and exciting that took you outside your comfort zone. You
did all the planning, took all the right steps but right at
the last moment you got scared and pulled out. Has that
ever happened to you? I can tell you it has happened to me!
Trust yourself, trust that you are capable, trust that you
are wonderful. Don't pull on the reigns as you jump ...
relax and enjoy the thrill of clearing that last hurdle!

Have an inspiring week! Site Meter
